Help Train Future Firefighters Through Donations And Raffle
Southwest, Florida- A special car wash and raffle is being held on June 18, 2005 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Matthews Currie Ford in Sarasota to raise funds to send the Youth of Sarasota County and future firemen to a specialized training school. Lisa Matthews and Pier 57/Twisted Metal Motorsports Powerboat Racing Team along with Ed Bielen, vice president of Matthews Currie Ford have teamed up with the Nokomis Fire Department to ensure that these future firefighters will receive training in order to keep the community safer.
The Pier 57/Twisted Metal Motorsports offshore race team is a nationally ranked powerboat team led by driver Lisa Matthews and is based in Sarasota. Lisa is presently racing on the OSS and APBA tours this summer and has placed in the winner’s circle for the last few races. Matthews Currie Ford provides all the tow vehicles for the team. From the raffle, one Grand Prize Winner will be selected and will be able to ride in the Pier 57/Twisted Metal Motorsports race boat. A second place winner will be awarded the opportunity to drive an F350 truck from Matthews Currie Ford for a day. The Nokomis Fire Department, which covers 33 square-miles of residential area will offer the third place winner the opportunity to ride in one of their state-of-the-art fire engines. The proceeds from the raffle and car wash will send this select group to a specialized school, which will provide the necessary education and training needed to be a firefighter. The Nokomis Fire Department is supported solely by donations and all firefighters are volunteers.
There will be opportunities for participants to sit inside the Pier 57/Twisted Metal Motorsports offshore racing boat and get a picture taken wearing a helmet, or sit inside a fire truck. Raffle tickets are available for $20 and the car wash is at no charge and donations are accepted. Hamburgers and hotdogs as well as sodas will be available for those who come out to support the fire department. Opportunities to meet the driver Lisa and throttleman Billy Glueck of the Pier 57/Twisted Metal Motorsports offshore racing team will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday June 18.
If you would like to purchase a raffle ticket, make a donation, or get involved please contact Lisa Matthews at 232-4524 or Nokomis Fire Department Chief David Kremerer at 941-488-8855.
